Legos, board games and puzzles are among the gifts parents are most confident will stand the test of time, according to a survey.
Bikes, Barbies, footballs and Rubik’s Cubes were also popular choices as parents believe the toys are the most timeless, Gumtree found.
According to the findings, nearly nine out of 10 (87%) parents feel pressured to give gifts their children will be delighted with this year.
But more than half (55%) of children aged six to 12 years surveyed said they would not mind if the gift was second-hand.
Top of the list was what children said in the lead up to Christmas (62%), followed by time off from school (59%), eating Christmas dinner (50%) and playing during the Christmas holidays. Games with friends and family (48%).
Hannah Roach, chief marketing officer at Gumtree, which has a toybox section with second-hand gifts on its website, said: “Toys and games make such priceless memories for children.”
