Rittenhouse in Antioch, Illinois, was cleared of all five charges last year related to his actions during a protest against the shooting of a black man, Jacob Blake, by a white Kenosha police officer on August 25.

The now 18-year-old was charged with negligent homicide in the murder of 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum and the intentional manslaughter in the death of 26-year-old Anthony Huber. He also faced charges of intentional attempt to murder to seriously injure Gage Grosskretz, a 27-year-old paramedic from suburban Milwaukee who volunteered for his medical services that night, and negligently bypassing security. There were two cases of endangerment.

Trump defended Rittenhouse, saying, “What he went through was what he should have been through—that was prosecutor’s misconduct. He shouldn’t have suffered through a trial for him.”

“If he didn’t pull that trigger, the guy who put the gun to his head was going to pull the trigger in a quarter of a second,” Trump said. “Kyle would have been dead,”

Rittenhouse testified in his defense last week, saying all the shootings were acts of self-defense. He and other armed men said they had gone to Kenosha to protect private property during the protest.

Huber and Rosenbaum were not armed when Rittenhouse shot them, but when Rittenhouse opened fire, Grosskretz came towards him with a pistol in hand.

Rittenhouse also attempted to shoot an unidentified man, known in court as the “Jump Kick Man,” who tried to kick the defendant in the face, and prosecutors said Rosenbaum was fired when So Rittenhouse could have injured another person.
