Liverpool were one of the busiest Premier League sides by the deadline as they eventually signed cover for the center-back position, bringing in Ben Davies from Preston North End and Ozan Kabak from Skelake.
However, this was not the only piece of business handled by Liverpool as Japanese international Takumi Minamino was surprisingly sent to fellow Premier League side Southampton.
Liverpool have been riddled with injuries this season, with all 3 senior center-backs suffering from serious injuries. Virgil van Dzek, Joe Gomez, and most recently Joel Matip all suffered potential season injuries leaving The Reds to cover in that post.
Sporting director, Michael Edwards, however, worked decisively and sensibly to get the deal across the line and add 2 talented center-backs to Liverpool’s roster.
Speaking about the arrival of Ben Davis, Jergen Klopp said in an exclusive interview with the official Liverpool website:
“What I like about Ben is just showing that each situation creates an opportunity. I think it’s probably clear that in a normal transfer window, with no issues, we wouldn’t see Preston if for us. There is a player or something like that. ” Not really likely.
But ever since we saw him and as our situation became clear and clear – the problems we had – when we saw him we really got excited about it and thought, ‘Wow.’ He is a boy who played all his life for Preston, pretty much around the corner.
We really see the potential. We see the quality and we see the potential because he is 25 years old and has a lot to offer. I love his play. He is a really good footballer, looks like a proper leader in this Preston team, is good at challenges, looks football smart, can play different positions as he used to play one back three and one back four and all these things.
That makes him really interesting so I really want to work with him. I know that this is an opportunity and I see it exactly for us, that it is a really good thing. “
Liverpool fans were also excited by the arrival of Ozan Kabak from Skelake. The 20-year-old Turkish star was linked with the Premier League giants in recent weeks.
Kabak has come up with an option to buy on a 6-month loan and it will be interesting to see how the youngsters adapt to the material demands of the Premier League.
