UFC superstar Conor McGregor will be ‘back on the mat’ in the next ‘few weeks’.

The MMA mogul suffered a horrific broken leg in July in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier but was quickly back on his feet to resume weight training.

And The Notorious is set to resume regular training with head coach and mentor John Kavanagh after a four-month recovery.

during an appearance on submission radio, the head of SBG Ireland, said: “He’s going back to the gym, he’s going to be back on the mat with me now in the next couple of weeks.

“He’s doing a lot of strength training at the moment.

“The boys are shocked. I think he’s coming back as middleweight (laughs).

“But he’ll be back on the mat with me soon and we’ll start again with combat sport training.

“And, he’s got some, um… I always have to choose my words carefully here, but look, we’ll start with practice.

“I actually joked with him, I said, ‘Look, I’d like if we start with some techniques, some exercises, let’s see how you get on’.

“And he’s like, ‘No, I’m going to do five out, that’s what I’m coming back to do’.

“And I’m like, oh, great, you know, we’re straight into full combat training again.”

McGregor, 33, is champing a bit to be back inside the octagon once his leg has fully recovered and is already eyeing a light title fight.

Coach Kavanaugh is unaware of ETA for Mack’s return, but is confident that his most famous student will compete next year.

The Irish MMA pioneer said of his most famous student: “He is very excited, very excited, very excited to strike 2022.

“And I’m not sure when he’ll be back, but he’ll be back.”

McGregor shattered his left tibia and fibula in his rubber match with The Diamond, which he lost via a first-round TKO.

But only a few weeks after the terrible setback, he resumed physical training.

And manager Audi Attar recently told SunSport that the Dubliner’s recovery is ‘ahead of schedule’

Paradigm Sports Management chief told SunSport: “That is premature.

“We not only got our X-ray results [back], [we got] Our ultrasound results and CT scan results.

“And when I look at the X-ray scene myself, it’s healing so beautifully.

“He’s only 10 and a half weeks away from surgery and he’s on the go.

“And he’s really doing that we don’t want him to throw the first pitch in a Cubs game.”
