Undersheriff McCabe said the parents prevented police from questioning their child. Law enforcement has said they believe the suspect acted alone and did not plan to shoot with anyone else. They are still probing whether the shooting was sudden or planned.

“I would like him to be charged as an adult,” Sheriff Bouchard said, but added that it would be “a decision for the prosecutor’s office.”

He said the suspect’s father had bought a 9mm Sig Sauer handgun four days before the shooting on Tuesday.

Sheriff Bouchard said the suspect still had seven bullets in his weapon when he was caught. “He’s not talking and neither are the parents,” he said.

The sheriff said the suspect acted as if he were an officer with access to barricaded classrooms. “We know by witnesses that he was tugging at the door, and we know from physical evidence that he shot through doors up and down more than one hallway,” he said.

The fourth student, 17-year-old Justin Schilling, died in hospital on Wednesday.

Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe said Justin died at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The other three victims in Tuesday’s shootings were 17-year-old Madison Baldwin, 16-year-old Tate Maire and 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said during a press briefing Tuesday night that Tate Myere died in a police vehicle while being taken to hospital. He did not elaborate on the other deaths.

Sheriff Bouchard said 11 people were shot by a 15-year-old gunman and that Oxford is a “quiet sweet community whose innocence was shattered”.
