Vigil’s viewers are struck by the show’s “confused” plot as Amy fights for her life.
The shocking scenes came as the final episode aired on the BBC on Sunday evening, leaving viewers uncertain about the direction of the programme.
The action begins with coxswain Elliot Glover (Shawn Evans), revealed as the person behind the gas mask, who had come to charge towards DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) when she saw the chef (Anita Waitse) in the food cupboard. I was poisoned.
But despite the appearances, Glover announces that he is attempting to protect her from potential contamination.
Struggling to keep up, one viewer wrote on Twitter: “#vigil Watching this five weeks in and still don’t have a weird clue who’s who? and what’s going on??
“All I know is that Steve Arnott died within five minutes of the show starting and that was the main reason why I was watching in the first place.”
A second commented: “Little gone Dr. Who. Totally jumped the shark”.
While a third said: “My dad has watched the show carefully for the last 4 episodes and the biggest question for him right now is ‘How fresh are these eggs?'”
As the fifth episode of the six-part series progressed, there were more complaints when a potentially infected Coxswain jumped out of the shower and licked lips with submarine doctor Docherty (Anjali Mohindra).
One onlooker enraged: “You’re telling me a doctor on this MF submarine someone has been exposed to a nerve agent and thought it was time for one last kiss??!?!”
Another quipped: “You may have contracted a deadly contaminant/nerve agent, which I just confirmed we have no cure for submersion.
“Wait until I kiss you before resuming my duties as senior doctor. For the love of God.”
The show then ended with a cliffhanger, showing Amy fighting for her life while trapped in a torpedo tube filled with water.
A viewer on Twitter asked, “#Vigil Can’t wait for the next episode, how ridiculous can this be.”
Another commented: “There’s a tense ending to that episode of #Vigil! A little far-fetched now.”
