The hugely influential hip-hop group – Lauryn Hill, Wycliffe Jean and Pres Mitchell – announced that they will reunite for a 2021 world tour, celebrating 25 years of their classic 1996 record ‘The Score’.

Their performance of “Ready or Not” was broadcast on Saturday (September 25) as part of a 24-hour Global Citizen live event, playing the rooftop at the Pier 17 venue in New York last week. Charity gigs, which aim to “unit the world to protect the planet and defeat poverty”, took place in several cities around the world.

The Fugees’ arena tour dates in early November in Chicago. The O2 has a London show scheduled for 6 December, before the tour ends with TBC shows in Nigeria and Ghana.

Reflecting on the reasons behind the reunion during the show, Hill said that the trio “have a complicated but beautiful history.”

It echoed a statement made earlier this week about Reunion Hill, saying: “The Fugees have a complex but impressive history. I decided to honor this important project, its anniversary, and the fans who have made a mark in the past. Appreciate music by creating a peaceful platform where we can unite, perform our favorite music and set an example of reconciliation for the world.”

“As I celebrate twenty-five years with the Fugitives, my first memory was that we swore from the gate we wouldn’t just do music, we would be a movement,” Wycliffe said. “We will be a voice for the unheard, and in these challenging times, I am once again grateful that God has brought us together.”

Elsewhere in the New York leg of Global Citizen Live, Coldplay was the headliner, and was joined by Billie Eilish and Phineas to share a poignant rendition of ‘Fix You’.

Lorde opened the NYC leg, performing the title track of her recent third album “Solar Power” and delivering a strong environmental message.
