Lewis Hamilton couldn’t believe it when he met what might be his oldest fan on YouTube this week.
The six-time world champion took time out of his busy schedule to video call a fan named Lane and his son David. Mercedes channel.
During his call, David revealed that dad Lane was about to turn 105 in a matter of weeks, and claimed he must be one of Hamilton’s oldest fans.
Hearing Lane’s age, Hamilton broke into a smile as he clapped, adding: “Wow, 105 – and he looks great! He looks great!”
Lane, who has been around long enough to see Sir Jackie Stewart run, then jumped into the conversation to call the British star “one of the best”.
The father and son told Hamilton how proud they were to be British, a compliment that clearly touched the Mercedes driver.
After the pair were showered with praise, Hamilton told them how important their own parents were in their journey to success.
And just before the call ended, Lane wished Hamilton all the best for the future.
The British racing icon will need all the luck in his pursuit of F1 rival Max Verstappen in the race for the title.
With only five races to go, Hamilton slipped further behind Verstappen after finishing fifth at the Turkish Grand Prix.
It later emerged that he could have finished eighth if he hadn’t listened to his Mercedes team and made a pit stop.
Hamilton was initially angry with his team for calling him for a stop because he thought he stood a chance to snatch a podium finish.
However, after crunching the numbers, Merck says that if he had done so he would have been looking down on eighth place, as the tires would eventually fail.
Hamilton would now like to turn things around, starting with the US GP later this month.
