But it almost ended in disaster because when he gave chase, his ankle almost gave way.

Wilder was supported against the ropes when Fury landed a two-punch combination.

And when the American was rolling backwards, he followed up with an uppercut and Wilder was down before landing on the follow up left hook.

But Fury later explained that it almost resulted in a catastrophic injury, which was still hurting after his 11-round thriller.

They told IFL TV: “When I hit him with an uppercut, bang in first [third] Round, dropped it, I almost broke my ankle.

“I walked on my ankle, my ankle hurts.”

Fury, 33, nearly won the fight after sending Wilder to the canvas.

But in the next round, disaster struck as he dropped himself twice but surprisingly recovered to fight.

Fury later regained control and put Wilder down for the second time in the tenth, signaling the beginning of the end.

It was in the next round that a ruthless right-hander closed the show and their trilogy series in style.

Fury said: “Today wasn’t my biggest night. Two years out of the ring, totally wasn’t there.

“But I still did enough to come out victorious and show heart and b****s like a lion again.”
