Shared on McKellen’s Instagram page on Sunday (November 21), the video shows her knitting ABBA-branded Christmas jumpers surrounded by sewing material.

As the camera shoots out, the two are shown seated under an ABBA banner, before the closing text read: “Merry Christmas from ABBA and Ian McKellen.”

McKellen captioned the clip: “The most exciting (mostly) silent clip you’ll see this season.”

Actor Pierce Brosnan responded to the post, writing: “Now this amazes me.”

Another commenter wrote: “ABBA and Ian McKellen, knitting, together, wasn’t my card for the 2021 holiday season. But I’ll gladly take it. Awesome!”

The clip follows the release of ABBA’s new album Voyage, the first new material to be released by the band in 40 years.

In Granthshala A three-star review, the album has been described as a “nostalgic journey worth taking” even with “a few bumpy moments along the way”.

“They’ve made an album that sounds reassuringly like ABBA, albeit more cool ABBA than you probably remember,” the review read.

“The disco-tinged single ‘Don’t Shut Me Down’ and a gallop banger called ‘No Doubt About It’ take the album into reasonably upbeat territory, but nothing here goes like ‘Volez Vous’ or ‘Gimme! Give! Give me! (A Man After Midnight)’.”

The album peaked at number one in the UK charts earlier this month and became the fastest-seller of 2021, moving more than 204,000 sales.
