The news would be a welcome boost for Hammer boss David Moyes, who had concerns about the impact traveling across the Atlantic would have on the star, which has been plagued by injury problems in recent years.

He said: “I can confirm that unfortunately, I will not be joining the Jamaica national team for the World Cup qualifying matches this week.

“I, West Ham United and Jamaica all agree that, given the logistics and travel difficulties currently involved, it is better for me to stay with the club in London for the time being.

“I am fully committed to Jamaica and look forward to representing my country in the future.”
