What’s open and closed in Halifax on Thanksgiving Monday 2021

Thanksgiving comes with some closures or changes in hours of operation as businesses and services in Halifax mark the holiday.

Nova Scotia is also reminding the public to follow public health regulations and spend time safely with family and friends amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The province said people can continue to gather in close social groups of up to 10 without physical distancing, although the group must be a coherent group.


Here is a list of stores and services that are open and closed in Halifax:

Halifax Transit

  • Buses in Halifax will be on holiday on Mondays. View full holiday schedule Here.

  • On Monday all on-street parking meters will be free.

Grocery & Liquor Store

  • The Halifax Seaport Farmers Market will be closed on Monday.
  • Bishop’s crypt is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart has different hours depending on the branch. Check out their website for more builds.


  • All malls, including the Halifax Shopping Center, Park Lane Mall, Scotia Square Mall, Mike Mac Mall and Sunnyside Mall, will remain closed on Monday.

Grocery & Liquor Store

  • All Sobies, Atlantic Superstore, Costco and Walmart locations are closed on Mondays.
  • All NSLC locations are closed on Mondays.


  • All banks will be closed on Monday.


  • All branches of the library will remain closed on Monday.

Canada Post

  • Mail collection and delivery on Monday has been canceled.
