When you can actually buy the iPhone 13

Apple has announced the iPhone 13, Mini, Pro, and Pro Max — plus when people will actually be able to buy them.

The all-new phones will open up for pre-orders on Friday, September 17th. It will be at 5 a.m. local Pacific time, Apple said, or 1 p.m. in the UK.

They’ll actually go on sale a week after that, on Friday, September 24.

That routine—with pre-orders taking place the Friday after the event, and phones going on sale a week later—has been nearly identical with all recent iPhones. But it was put on hold somewhat last year, when the coronavirus and associated production problems meant that the announcement of new phones and their release dates were delayed.

There doesn’t seem to be any such problem this year, however, with all four versions of the new iPhone going on sale at the same time.

However, the Apple Watch has been hit by production problems. Although it was announced during the same event, Apple only said it was coming with “later this fall.”

That could extend to any time, including mid-December, which means there’s no way of knowing how close the release date might be.

Apple didn’t give a reason for the Watch’s delay, but it is probably related to production problems that were widely rumored prior to the incident. (Rumors also suggested that the watch was receiving a total redesign, which may help explain why it was proving difficult to manufacture, but it didn’t.)

After the event, Apple also said that iOS 15 will be released in the coming days. It will arrive on Monday, September 20.
