UFC Vegas 18 is officially in the books, and is an exciting event. The incident saw everything from back and forth slugfests to weighed knockouts.
The card, which took place at the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas on February 6, was brought to the headlines by a heavyweight encounter between Alastair Overim and Alexander Volkov. The night’s co-main event featured a cracker of a bantamweight contest between fight game player Frankie Edgar and emerging contender Corey Sandhagen.
Alexander Volkov demolished Alastair Overmall in the main event of the UFC Vegas 18 to win the second round. Volkov dominated the 40-year-old UFC veteran by outstruck and the start of the fight. The 32-year-old, with a total of 54 critical attacks on Overham, was ejected from The Rem, who made only 20 attacks.
The fight came in the second round of the period when Volkov’s relentless haggling overcame the former heavyweight title contender. A hard jab-cross combination was all it took for an overdack knockdown for Volkov, as referee Jason Herzog stepped in to make a sensible pause.
Alistair Overim was expecting another shot at the end of the UFC heavyweight title
With this victory, Alexander Volkov established himself as a legitimate title contender in the UFC Heavyweight Division. Current title contender Francis Neganau accepted it following Volvo’s stunning performance at UFC Vegas 18.
However, Nagannu warns him to be careful as it is ‘slippery’ at the top.
As far as Alastair Overim is concerned, his hopes of one final title run in the UFC heavyweight division have unfortunately ended. Overim knew that he had to somehow defeat Volkov in order to remain relevant in the title picture, but that was not what it meant. The 40-year-old should now make a call on his future inside the Octagon.
