William and Kate sport recycled outfits as they hail winners at Earthshot awards

Kate and William were king and queen of the green last night as they honored the winners of the £50 million planet saving prize.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the Echo Bash with stars including Liverpool footballer Mo Salah, actress Emma Watson and singer Ed Sheeran.

William showed off his environmental credentials by wearing a green jacket, which he has worn several times before, helped present the show and revealed that next year’s ceremony will be held in the USA.

Speaking at a reception later, William said: “We raised the bar – now in America.”

Kate also carried the planet-saving theme in a dress that Royal fans last seen at a BAFTA event in 2011.

Guests were told to “consider the environment when choosing their outfits” for the event.

Harry Potter actress Emma Watson, 31, wore an Oxfam wedding dress made of ten frocks.

And none of the stars went to London for the event at the Alexandra Palace, making sure its carbon footprint was kept low.

Kate announced the winner of the Protect and Restore Nature Costa Rica prize of £1 million.

She said: “Nature is important to all of us. A thriving natural world controls our climate, nourishes our physical and mental health and helps feed our families.

“But for a very long time we have neglected our wild places and now we are facing several important points.

“If we don’t act now, we will permanently destabilize our planet and we will rob our children of the future they deserve.”

Other stars included 62-year-old Emma Thompson, and a performance by YouTube star KSI, 28. Wills was seen giving thumbs-ups in several seats as Brazilian footie ace Dani Alves, 38, performed by Ed Sheeran, 30.

Coldplay played their latest single, which was driven by 60 cyclists.

The Earthshot Prize, announced a year ago, is awarding £1 million to five projects each year from now until the end of the decade.

Enfield attacker Mo Salah, 29, announced Coral Vita of the Bahamas, which cultivates coral to restore dying reefs, was the winner of the Revive Our Ocean category.

Emma Watson revealed the AEM electrolyzer that produces green hydrogen as the winner of the Fix Our Climate section.

Milan was awarded the Build a Waste-Free World category award after Emma Thompson took unwanted shop fruits and vegetables and handed them over to poor areas.

And actor David Oyelowo, 45, in New Delhi unveiled Takachar, a system for burning agricultural waste and prohibits burning of crops, as the winner of Clean Our Air Earthshot.

Concluding the show, and revealing the prize would be relocated to the United States, William told a star-studded audience: “What a night it’s been. I hope everyone understands more about the immediate challenges facing our planet in this pivotal decade.

“Now, I hope you agree that London and the UK have done quite well for our first year.

“So for the second year in a row, we need to pass the baton to a country whose leadership is needed for all five of our Earthshots.

“Where better than the nation that inspired Moonshot all those years ago?”

On the green carpet, 37-year-old presenter Clara Amfo talked about William’s acting skills.

She said: “She’s been really good company. I’m sure you saw our ad and he was quite an actor.

“We took a few takes and he took very little.”

Co-host Dermot O’Leary, 48, said: “He’s pretty unarmed. He’s doing an incredible job. It’s easy not to put your head over the parapet, but that’s it.”
