A legal assistant was momentarily left blind when dodgy eyelash extensions scratched her eyeballs—and she’s now too scared to touch up any false eyelashes again.

The eyeballs of 31-year-old Zovi Kienia of Bournemouth, Dorset, were left ‘shattered to pieces’ after a dodgy beautician took three steps to incorrectly apply lash extensions to her waterline, eyelids and the skin line between the eyes. Took hours.

The stinging pain caused her eyes to close, and found that her eyelashes had scratched her cornea, had to be taken to A&E by her boyfriend, a legal assistant.

Since she regained her eyesight, Zovi is now very sensitive to light and has to wear sunglasses when indoors.

Now feeling like ‘less than a woman’ after the ordeal, Zovi is too scared to wear eyelashes again, and wants to share her story so little girls don’t make the same mistake.

Zovi Kinia, 31, of Bournemouth, Dorset, was left ‘scratch to piece’ in her eye after a dodgy beautician took three hours to incorrectly apply lash extensions to her waterline during a painful appointment.

Zovi – whose vision has returned but has to wear sunglasses due to sensitivity – said: ‘I feel less like a woman.

‘I used to wear eyelashes a lot, but now I don’t wear them. I am very scared right now.’

Zovi found the lash beautician on Facebook, and to add insult to injury, she was overcharged for the treatment when the technician, who treated her at her home, refused to hand her £20 change.

But worse times were about to come, when Zovi began to have problems with her vision.

The appointment took three hours and was painful, indicating a story that something was going wrong, Zovi admitted backwards.

After the treatment his eyes were closed as he fought to protect himself from the attack of scabies.

He said: ‘It felt like someone was stabbing me in the eye.

‘I was looking in the mirror and I could barely open my eyes.

‘When I opened my eyes, the only way I could describe it was that someone had put gel in my eyes. It was pain.

‘I’m usually pretty good with pain but I was in tears because it was so painful.’

Her boyfriend took her to A&E near their home in the morning after the treatment.

The doctors had a hard time opening Zovi’s eyes because of how swollen Zovi’s eyes were.

Doctors at A&E used specialist equipment to open Zovi’s eyes and apply yellow dye to them to see how badly she was scratched.

She said: ‘I had applied bright yellow dye and they said my eyes were torn in pieces.

When I came out of the hospital my health started getting worse. I started coughing up all these yellow things that they had put in my eyes.

‘I didn’t know what was going on – there was just yellow stuff coming out of my nose and mouth.

‘It was terrible. I felt I was going blind and dying.

The doctors said they could not cure Zovi and advised her that she needed to immediately return to the beautician and have the doggy lash extensions removed.

However, she said that the beautician – unaffected by the shock hospital visit – claimed she was too busy to help.

Zovi had no choice but to keep her eyes closed, but bought a kit online and dissolved the glue on the lashes herself the next day.

She said she experienced blurred vision for two weeks after it was removed.

As for rubbing salt into the wound, she said the beautician didn’t apologize or offer a refund.

Zovi now wants to warn young girls about the dangers of eyelashes and choose a technician you can trust.

As a result of the examination her eyes are very sensitive to light and she finds herself wearing sunglasses indoors.

For him, the warning signs were a three-hour appointment, as opposed to the usual 45 minutes, and being in acute pain during treatment.

Zovi now knows that applying lash extensions shouldn’t hurt so much, despite the technician assuring her of a sharp sting.

The appointment took so long that her boyfriend panicked that she was kidnapped and knocked on the door.

She’s since bought strip lashes, but can’t bring herself to put them on and doesn’t think she’ll ever wear false eyelashes of any kind again.
