A woman has claimed she was raped by Benjamin Mendy’s friend and fixer, claiming she was ‘ashamed’ about having sex with an older man, a court heard today.

The complainant, in the Mendi rape trial, has told that 41-year-old Louis Saha Maturi assaulted her when she went to his flat with a friend at her 19th birthday celebrations in March last year.

Ms. Lisa Wilding, Casey for Maturity, suggested that the complainant had told friends that her alleged rapist, known as Saha, ‘was about 40 years old with wrinkles.’

The witness admitted that he must have said so but had no ‘accurate’ memory.

Ms Wilding said: ‘You said he was ugly and that he was not someone you had sex with or were physically attracted to. You were trying to explain why you had sex because you didn’t find him attractive.

‘I suggest that you said all these things because you wanted your friends to think that you would not have consented to have sex with him.’

The witness replied: ‘No. I don’t care what they think.’

Ms Wilding said she had been flirting with Maturi in the Salford flat before she went to the couple’s bedroom, where they enjoyed consensual sex.

Ms. Wilding said: ‘The next morning you were embarrassed to have sex with a man you only met that night.’

The witness replied: ‘No, I was shocked by what happened to me.’

Ms. Wilding said: ‘The moment you left the bedroom, you were firm in your mind that you had been raped.’

The complainant replied: ‘I didn’t really admit it but I knew something was wrong. I came to admit it later but I knew something was wrong as I left.

‘I was blacked out and then I remembered something about what had happened to me but it wasn’t full. It was like fuzzy.’

The witness was asked why he had posted five pictures from his birthday party three days after the alleged rape.

She said: ‘It was still my 19th birthday and before everything else, there were good memories. I do not see why not.’

The witness also claimed that he had warned the friend who had gone to the flat with him not to return there as ‘I knew what kind of man he was.’

The friend, who also claims that she was raped by Maturi in the flat three weeks later, told the court in a video interview that the witness was not interested in her as ‘she thought he was ugly.’

The complainant admitted that she had been taking medication for ADHD since the age of 15 and sometimes felt ‘hyper and over-emotional’ to react with alcohol.

Mendy, 28, of Prestbury, Cheshire, has denied seven rapes, one attempted rape and one sexual assault.

Maturi of Eccles, Greater Manchester, denied six rapes and three sexual assaults.

Two friends said that when she returned to the flat where her birthday party was held, the witness ‘looked terrible’.

A male friend said in a statement to the jury: ‘She looked terrible and was very withdrawn. She said she had been raped and that she looked quite distant and worried when she told us what had happened.

‘She said she didn’t want to go the way of telling the police, she wanted to forget about it.

Another female friend, who lived in the flat, said: ‘She looked absolutely messed up and looked like she was crying. She said she was raped and that she seemed distraught when she told us. She didn’t make it clear, she was telling us in bits.

‘She thought her drink must have spiked because she couldn’t understand why she didn’t wake up right away.

‘He said he was a black man who looked old with wrinkles and was ugly. She said she woke up having sex with him.’

The trial will continue on Tuesday as well.
