wooWill France cut off electricity to Britain and Jersey just because its fishing boats don’t need a permit?
This is unlikely, given everything, but it cannot be ruled out. Even in the current bad climate it would seem difficult to deprive Jersey’s medical facilities of all their electricity (the pipeline from France is the only reliable sustainable source of energy). Despite Jersey hitting the sick and elderly as a cold, Boris Johnson cannot be said to be “un bony look”.
But the mood in France is certainly turning ugly, and electricity supplies to the mainland UK should be in some danger – short rather than cut. In some ways, Brexit has been a far more traumatic event on that side of the Channel than in England. The French Minister for European Affairs, Clement Beaune, has announced that the Brexit agreement had to be “fully implemented”, otherwise “we will take European or national measures to pressure the UK”.
