Yankees vs. Pirates prediction: Aaron Judge goes for 61 home runs

There was magic in the air in the Bronx on Tuesday night as Aaron Judge hit his 60th home run to start the win from a wild comeback over the Pirates at Yankee Stadium. The Bombers were down, 8–4, entering the bottom of the ninth, but won 9–8 thanks to Giancarlo Stanton’s walk-off Grand Slam.

The Yankees and the Pirates went back on him Wednesday night in MLB action. New York is the -310 favorite behind Luis Severino, while the Pirates are currently sitting at +250. These are almost the same as whether the judge has to hit his 61st home run (+255).

Yankees Vs Pirates Prediction

In a situation like this, you know the Yankees are about to be inflated. The Pirates are awesome, the Bombers are the top-five team in MLB and the entire baseball world will be watching to see if the judges can tie Roger Maris’ American League/Yankee home run record. There won’t be many people watching this game because they bet on the books.

But it is a matter of betting. If you’re in it for the long haul, you know where the value will be in a situation like this.

There’s more to Pittsburgh than the price increase that makes Books an interesting bet on this number. While the Pirates offense is near the bottom of the league in basically every metric, they have a decent matchup on Wednesday nights.

It will be Luis Severino’s first MLB debut in two months, due to a stint on the injured list with a strained latitude. Severino’s season-long numbers are solid – he stands for 3.45 ERA and 3.47 xFIP in 86 innings – but he may have to make a start or two to gain momentum after all that time. There’s never a good time to support pirate crime, but it’s not the worst place for them.

Pittsburgh will also have its best pitcher on the mound to take on Severino. Roansy Contreras has an ERA of 3.24 in 83.1 innings this season and even though his xFIP suggests his statline has grown a bit, he is still the rising ace of the staff at 22 years old. Contreras also enters this start in good form, posting 1.65 ERA in his last five outings (27.1 innings).

When it comes to places like this, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to find out that the Yankees are inflated. It could be a historic night, the Yanks just won a thriller 24 hours ago, and the Pirates are terrifying.

But the pitching matchup and price make the Bucs worthy of a bet to spoil Wednesday night’s shindig.
